Share Our Strength - Winnipeg

Why Does Share Our Strength Matter in Our Community?

FOR 14 YEARS, Share Our Strength Winnipeg has worked to alleviate and prevent hunger and poverty in our city, our country and around the world.
Share Our Strength supports food assistance, treating malnutrition and other consequences of hunger, and promotes economic independence among people in need. SOS meets immediate demands for food while investing in long-term solutions to hunger and poverty. To meet those goals, SOS mobilizes both industries and individuals to contribute their talents to its anti-hunger efforts and creates community wealth to promote lasting change.
Share Our Strength is not a traditional food bank we are a food bank of knowledge. We believe that food education is equally as important as sustenance itself. Our philosophy is:

“Give a man a fish, you’ll feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish, and you’ll feed him for a lifetime.”

An unconscionable number of children live in poverty here in Manitoba. More than half of all children in Canada who live in poverty, live with parents who have earnings from employment. This is why it is so important that the money earned in a household is spent wisely. Charities that benefit from Share Our Strength events teach economic food nutrition classes that educate the participants in how to feed their families within tight financial boundaries.
Studies show that regular nutrition improves a student’s grades, concentration, health and social behaviour.

100% of tickets sales help ensure no kid grows up hungry.

Since 1994, SOS Winnipeg has raised over $965,000 for hunger relief.

Hungry children don’t just live in third-world countries, they also live next door...

60,000 children or 19.5% of Manitoba children live in poverty.
